Fire resistance

Fire doors: vital fire partitions and barriers

Fire resistance is among the most complex and most important issues in building construction. Design elements, such as fire doors that partition spaces, play a central role. They can help prevent fires and inhibit the spread of flames. At the same time, they help enable rescue and extinguishment work.

FIRE PROTECTION CLOSURE

Self-closing fire doors

At neuform, we offer you single-leaf or double-leaf self-closing fire doors. To select the right solution for you, fire-resistance ratings must be taken into account. They specify the length of time the door is able to withstand a fire – i.e. how long the door must provide thermal insulation or prevent the spread of flames, and yet still be able to open. neuform fire doors are available with the fire resistance ratings T30 (30 minutes’ resistance) and T90, and F30 and F90 for fire-protective glazing. International fire resistance ratings are specified as EI30 or EI90.

Whatever their precise design or configuration, fire doors are only at their most effective when the door leaf, frame, seals, hinges and lock, and above all the door closer – with or without a hold-open device – are all carefully matched. Because it takes the right combination of seamlessly integrated elements to make the difference when it truly counts: in the event of an emergency.

FIRE PROTECTIVE GLAZING

A defence against fire, smoke and heat

In addition to other fire-resistant elements, such as self-closing doors, neuform fire-protective glazing makes a key contribution to people’s safety inside buildings.

Fire-protective glazing supports fire compartmentalisation, and comprises a single or multiple transparent elements. Depending on its fire resistance rating, it prevents the spread of flame and impedes heat radiation. The ratings, e.g. F30 and F90 indicate the duration of fire resistance in minutes. Each fire-protective glazing element is made of several glass panes. In the event of a fire, the pane facing the fire shatters and a heat shield forms.

As with doors, the ideal interaction of components is important to ensure a safe environment and to comply with statutory safety requirements.

It is important to note: doors and glazing can only be combined when they share the same fire resistance rating (F30 / T30 or F90 / T90).
