Smoke-tight doors: enabling rescue work

In addition to fire-resistant elements, solutions for smoke control must be a top priority. After all, where there is smoke, there is fire – and vice versa.

Even without a fire-resistance rating, smoke-control elements such as single-leaf or double-leaf self-closing doors from neuform fulfil a simple yet essential purpose.

In the event of a fire, they prevent smoke from spreading, so for several key minutes people can be rescued without firefighters requiring breathing apparatuses. The partitioning, or compartmentalisation, provided by smoke-control elements also impedes the circulation of hazardous fumes, and helps safeguard escape routes.

From a design perspective, these doors are harmonious blends of multiple components: it takes the combination of leaf, frame and, in particular, closer and seals to ensure smoke-control doors are self-closing and tightly sealed.
